King Rocks Wind Farm

Hyden is at the forefront of the energy transition with the King Rocks Wind Farm expected to begin powering households and businesses by 2027. The wind farm will have the capacity to generate up to 105 megawatts of renewable energy. That’s enough capacity to power up to 70,000 average homes in WA.

About the project

The King Rocks Wind Farm will generate up to 105 megawatts of renewable energy from 17 turbines installed across the 3,000 hectare site. These turbines will be around 206 metres tall at the tip of the blade, comprising a 115 metre tower and 80 metres blade. The site was selected due to its proximity to Western Power’s electricity transmission lines, strong overnight wind and access to predominantly cleared, freehold agricultural land which is well suited to a wind farm development.

The project is expected to take approximately two years to construct. Up to 200 jobs will be created during construction of the wind farm and where practicable, the construction partner will seek to engage locally.

Wind turbine infrastructure, including the 80 metre blades, will be transported by road from Bunbury Port to the wind farm site. Measures will be put in place to minimise disruption to road traffic. More details will be communicated closer to the date.


Construction accommodation

Synergy is pleased to announce that the Shire of Kondinin has approved the development application for the King Rocks Wind Farm temporary accommodation facility.

The accommodation facility will be approximately 800m north of the Hyden town centre and will house up to 189 workers during the wind farm’s construction phase.

Further communication will be shared with the Hyden community to ensure that disruptions during construction are minimised in accordance with development approval requirements.

    Introduction

    Synergy is expanding its renewable energy portfolio with a range of new projects. The Shire of Kondinin will play a vital role in Western Australia’s energy transition by hosting the King Rocks Wind Farm. The King Rocks Wind Farm will be approximately 35km north-east of Hyden. 

    In constructing the wind farm, priority will be given to local employment. In addition to any local employment, the project is also expected to require up to 200 workers who may need temporary accommodation. To support this, a temporary accommodation facility may be built 800m north of the Hyden town centre. Synergy is currently assessing the workforce requirements which will determine the appropriate size of the temporary accommodation facility.
