Albany Grasmere Wind Farm

The Albany Grasmere Wind Farm has been generating energy for Western Australia for over 20 years, as well as being an iconic landmark of the Great Southern region. The wind farm produces renewable energy equivalent to 80 per cent of Albany’s annual electricity needs.

While the turbines are continuing to operate effectively there will come a time, as the turbines approach the end of their design life, when they become less economic to maintain. Bright Energy Investment (BEI) has engaged Synergy to investigate the options for the future of the Albany Grasmere Wind Farm.

Environmental and wind studies are being conducted to determine the impacts and benefits of various options for the site. A meteorological (met) mast has been installed, near the current wind farm, to facilitate these wind studies. Over the next couple of years, the met mast will gather strong data concerning the complex wind conditions on this site to determine next steps.

The local community will be kept informed of decisions regarding the future of renewable energy generation in Albany.
