Proposed Tathra Wind Farm

Synergy is investigating the feasibility of a wind farm in the Shire of Carnamah, near Eneabba.

In line with the State Government’s Energy Transformation Strategy, Synergy is continually looking for opportunities to expand our fleet of renewable generation assets. As part of this, Synergy is currently investigating the feasibility of a proposed wind farm in the Shire of Carnamah, to be known as the Tathra Wind Farm.

The feasibility studies will determine the size and design of the proposed wind farm, which is expected to be up to 140 turbines, generating up to 1,000 MW.

Location

The proposed Tathra Wind Farm is approximately 300 km north of Perth in the Shire of Carnamah, 25 km east of Eneabba. This site sits just north of the existing Warradarge Wind Farm.

Proposed timing:

Due to the size of the proposed windfarm, construction is likely to take place in multiple phases. Construction for the first phase is anticipated to begin in 2028 and will take approximately two years to complete.

The proposed wind farm location would sit across a collection of farming properties within the Shire of Carnamah.

The Mid West region is an area of interest for a wind farm because it boasts:

• Strong winds which can complement solar generation

• Access to a transmission line

• Established farmland, minimising need for clearing in construction

• Agricultural activity which is harmonious with wind energy generation

The Mid West will play a critical role in WA’s energy transition and we want to hear from you.

Stakeholder engagement is an essential part of this development. As part of our feasibility study, Synergy is engaging with the local community and other key stakeholders to hear your unique perspectives and to collect feedback about the potential impacts and opportunities associated with the proposed wind farm, and how these could be effectively managed.

It’s important to Synergy that the proposed Tathra Wind Farm has positive economic and social benefits for Carnamah, Eneabba and the wider region. Community feedback is crucial to identify how the proposed Tathra Wind Farm could best achieve these goals.
